Opinion on farming

Farming in the Shang Dynasty

By: Alyssa McHale

Farming in the Shang dynasty was outstandingly hard. Farmers did not get as much respect as the others. For homes, the farmers got to live in very small homes made out of bamboo. This was mostly in the summer. But, in the winter the farmers would usually be moved to villages. Constantly moving around could affect there settlement. The winter houses were even worse. They were one room houses, with no furniture.

The farmers had to work on the farms assigned by the rulers and nobles. They did not own the land. They had no saying on anything, not even where they farmed. Most of the food they grew did not even go to them. They had to give most of it to the nobles. The farmers worked mostly 24/7.

These tasks are very hard because they had to work all the time which means they did not have time for their families, and after doing all this work, they did not get a repay. The nobles got most of the food which would be hard for the farmers to manage. If the farmers kept moving around from place to place where they lived, this would become a challenge. They would not be able to settle in the place they wanted to be. They had no choice. This is why farming was most likely a challenge for the farmers.

The Shang Dynasty Bronze Age
By: Alyssa McHale
The Bronze age was a very important time in the Shang dynasty. Started in 2000 B.C., the bronze age was born. In the Shang dynasty, also known as the Yin dynasty the bronze age was very helpful by making tools out of the bronze.
The Shang dynasty was one of the first dynasties in China to get involved in the Bronze age. People who lived in the Shang dynasty were more successful with this bronze. They made tools to help fight and also help protect.
They not only made weapons, but made wine vessels, regular vessels, decorations, etc. The Shang dynasty got involved in the bronze age because they knew it was helpful for them to create these things to become a stronger dynasty.

Interview with Shang Dynasty Ruler!

Question: Good morning, Emporer Shang! What are two of the most important events that have happened in your dynasty so far?

Answer: I would say the two most important events that have occoured in my dynasty so far are the development of the system of writing, and the Bronze age.

Question: Why was the development of the system of writing so important?

Answer: These events were so important because the development of the system of writing helped my dynasty become more eduated. The system of writing consists of 3,000 symbols. We usually write on tiny strips of bamboo.

Question: Why was the Bronze age so important to your dynasty?

Answer: The Bronze age was so important because my dynasty was able to create things made out of bronze to make things such as weapons to have a stronger army, things for cooking such as making pots and bowls, etc.

Question: How did the Bronze make your weapons better?

Answer: The weapons got stronger, which helped us in the war. We made shields and weapons to help protect us, and to help us win.

Question: When did these two significant things take place?

Answer: The bronze age began around 2000 B.C. and lasted for about 2,000 years. The system of writing has been used for about 3,500 years.

Question: Thank you for your time with us today. We hope to see you again soon.
